Oxytetracycline 20% Injection

COMPOSITION

Each mL contains:
Oxytetracycline (as oxytetracycline dihydrate) …………… 200 mg
Excipients …………………………………………………………… q.s. to 1 mL


PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASS

Tetracycline antibiotic.


INDICATIONS

OXYTETRA® 20 is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by oxytetracycline-sensitive microorganisms, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections

  • Gastrointestinal infections

  • Septicemia

  • Mastitis

  • Metritis

  • Foot rot

  • Wound and soft tissue infections

  • Anaplasmosis and other rickettsial infections

in cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and camels, as determined by a veterinarian.


DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

For intramuscular injection only.

  • Cattle, camels:
    1 mL per 10 kg body weight

  • Sheep, goats, pigs:
    1 mL per 10–15 kg body weight

Treatment may be repeated after 24 hours for 3–5 days, depending on clinical response.

⚠️ Do not inject more than 10 mL per injection site.


CONTRAINDICATIONS

  • Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines

  • Do not use in animals with severe hepatic or renal impairment

  • Do not administer intravenously

  • Avoid use in animals during the last stage of pregnancy unless advised by a veterinarian


ADVERSE REACTIONS

  • Local irritation or swelling at injection site

  • Hypersensitivity reactions (rare)

  • Prolonged use may affect gastrointestinal microflora


WITHDRAWAL PERIOD

  • Meat: 28 days

  • Milk: 7 days

(Withdrawal periods may vary according to local regulations.)


PRECAUTIONS & WARNINGS

  • Shake well before use

  • Use aseptic injection techniques

  • Avoid concurrent use with bactericidal antibiotics

  • Prolonged or improper use may lead to antimicrobial resistance

  • Do not exceed recommended dosage

  • Store below 25°C

  • Protect from light

  • Do not freeze

  • Keep container tightly closed

  • Keep out of reach of children
